Car Stereo and CD Removal and Installation

Chevrolet Silverado Car Stereo Removal, Repair and Replacement 1.1) Open drink holder tray.
1.2) Gently pull on upper edge of dash trim panel, this will release all clips along top edge of panel
Chevrolet Silverado Car Stereo Removal, Repair and Replacement 2.1) Set parking brake.
2.2) Place the gear selector switch in low.
2.3) Reach behind trim panel at left of car stereo and release triggers on connectors to free dash trim panel
2.4) Unclip the lower section of the dash trim panel and lift right side of panel up for access to car stereo.
Chevrolet Silverado Car Stereo Removal, Repair and Replacement 3.1) Press down on the outside clips of the factory head unit (or pocket) and remove.
3.2) Disconnect antenna and connectors from car stereo.

CD Player Removal

4.1) Press down on the outside clips of the factory head unit (or pocket) and remove.
4.2) Disconnect connector from back of CD player.

How to Remove and Install Front Door Panel and Speakers

Chevrolet Tahoe Car Stereo Removal, Repair and Replacement 1.1) Gently pull top edge of small panel above door panel away from door.
Chevrolet Tahoe Car Stereo Removal, Repair and Replacement 2.1) Plastic clip will release with pressure. Pull top of panel away from door.
Chevrolet Tahoe Car Stereo Removal, Repair and Replacement 3.1) Lift panel up to release and remove.
Chevrolet Tahoe Car Stereo Removal, Repair and Replacement 4.1) Use pry tool on panel pin.
Chevrolet Tahoe Car Stereo Removal, Repair and Replacement 5.1) Pry panel pin from door and remove.
Chevrolet Tahoe Car Stereo Removal, Repair and Replacement 6.1) Gently pry top edge of trim ring up away from door panel. Wedge a finger between trim ring and door panel to keep trim ring from popping back into place.
Chevrolet Tahoe Car Stereo Removal, Repair and Replacement 7.1) Gently pry back edge of trim ring up away from door panel. Wedge a finger between trim ring and door panel to keep trim ring from popping back into place.
Chevrolet Tahoe Car Stereo Removal, Repair and Replacement 8.1) Gently pry bottom edge of trim ring up away from door panel.
Chevrolet Tahoe Car Stereo Removal, Repair and Replacement 9.1) Release trim ring from door panel and remove.
Chevrolet Tahoe Car Stereo Removal, Repair and Replacement 10.1) Remove two screws from arm rest.
Chevrolet Tahoe Car Stereo Removal, Repair and Replacement 11.1) Gently pry back edge of control panel from door panel.
Chevrolet Tahoe Car Stereo Removal, Repair and Replacement 12.1) Lift back edge of control panel up while pulling panel back from leading edge releasing securing tongue.
Chevrolet Tahoe Car Stereo Removal, Repair and Replacement 13.1) Remove control panel from cavity.
Chevrolet Tahoe Car Stereo Removal, Repair and Replacement 14.1) Release triggers on connectors, they are either squeeze trigger into connector to release or lift trigger to release.
14.2) If the speaker was present on this panel, release connector.

Chevrolet Tahoe Car Stereo Removal, Repair and Replacement 16.1) Gently pry back edge of door panel from door.
Chevrolet Tahoe Car Stereo Removal, Repair and Replacement 17.1) Wedge hand into opening between door panel and door to further release clips.
Chevrolet Tahoe Car Stereo Removal, Repair and Replacement 18.1) Work your way along bottom edge of door panel releasing clips.
18.2) Work your way up front and back edges of door panel releasing clips.
Chevrolet Tahoe Car Stereo Removal, Repair and Replacement 19.1) Pull bottom edge of door panel far enough away from door panel to allow panel to clear over door open handle while lifting back edge of door panel out of window jam.
19.2) Lift front edge of door panel from window jam, set panel to side.
Chevrolet Tahoe Car Stereo Removal, Repair and Replacement 20.1) Remove screws securing speaker to door and remove.

NOTE - for determining aftermarket installation polarity of speaker for correct hook up see Speaker Phasing.

21.2) Pry door panel pins from door.

Speaker Removal

1.1) Gently pry top edge of speaker grill from door panel.

Chevrolet Tahoe Speaker Removal and Replacement 3.1) Gently pry bottom edge of speaker grill from door panel.
3.2) Remove speaker grill.
3.3) Remove screws securing speaker to door panel.

Door Panel Removal

1.1) Gently pry top edge of trim ring up away from door panel. Wedge a finger between trim ring and door panel to keep trim ring from popping back into place.

9.2) Lift front edge of door panel from window jam, set panel to side.

10.2) Pull panel back for access to speaker and window control switch.
10.3) Release triggers on connectors at speaker and window control to disconnect.
Chevrolet Tahoe Car Stereo Removal, Repair and Replacement 11.1) Check door for any door panel pins that were not removed with door panel.
11.2) Pry door panel pins from door.

TECH NOTE -  Cross over mounted to door in this location will have clearance when reinstalling door panel.

12.2) Install door panel pin into slot on door panel.
Chevrolet Tahoe Car Stereo Removal, Repair and Replacement TECH NOTE - this vehicle came to uS with speakers previously installed from a local so called "Installation Shop". Obviously, we were not happy with their work, we rewired. The previous shop cut three holes for tweeters in the door panel, see first picture on this page, only the top two locations have clearance when reinstalling door panel. The lower third tweeter is just a dummy speaker grill to cover the mistake they made.

How to Remove and Replace Rear Ceiling Speakers

Tahoe Speaker Removal and Replacement 1.1) Squeeze edges of speaker grill together. This will bow the speaker grill cover.
Tahoe Speaker Removal and Replacement 2.1) Release back edge of speaker grill cover.
Tahoe Speaker Removal and Replacement 3.1) Pull speaker grill cover back to release leading edge and set speaker grill cover to side.

TECH NOTE - two tabs on this speaker grill cover are screwed on. If the screws are loose, the tabs may spin. Move tabs into proper position, tighten screws before installation.

Tahoe Speaker Removal and Replacement 5.1) Remove speaker, release trigger on connector to disconnect.

TECH TIP - for determining aftermarket installation polarity of speaker for correct hook up see Speaker Phasing.

Tahoe Speaker Removal and Replacement TECH NOTE - check speaker connector, wire braid from connector into speaker may unravel. This speaker wire braid can touch the metal framing of the speaker and cause one or both sides of the car stereo audio to drop out.
