Nissan Maxima Car Stereo Removal Guide

Install radio, remove and replace 1.1) Set parking brake and shift to low gear.
1.2) Remove ash tray.
Replacing radio, removing and installing 2.1) Remove one screw at bottom right of ash tray cavity.
Install radio, remove and replace 3.1) Remove one screw below cigarette lighter.

FOR '89-90

4.1) Remove two screws above car stereo.

Install radio, remove and replace 5.1) Lift insert panel from around gear shift.
Replacing radio, removing and installing 6.1) For stick shift, pull panel back to allow forward panel to release.

6.1) Four automatic, release panel up over gear shift and remove.

Install radio, remove and replace 7.1) Grasp front panel at ash tray opening and pull from dash.
Replacing radio, removing and installing 8.1) Work you way up side of panel, top of panel has three clips that will release with pressure.
Install radio, remove and replace 9.1) Reach behind top back of panel at emergency flasher switch.
9.2) Release trigger on connector to disconnect.

NOTE - It is important to reconnect this connector for emergency flashers and turn signals to work after removal.

Replacing radio, removing and installing 10.1) Pull top edge of panel forward.
Install radio, remove and replace 11.1) Release triggers on two connectors at cigarette lighter to disconnect.
11.2) Remove panel and set to side.
Replacing radio, removing and installing 12.1) Remove two screws right of car stereo.
Install radio, remove and replace 13.1) Remove two screws left of car stereo.
Replacing radio, removing and installing 14.1) Pull car stereo from dash.
Install radio, remove and replace 15.1) Release triggers on antenna and two connectors to disconnect.

Nissan Maxima Front Door Panel Removal Guide

*This procedure will help with replacement of window regulators.

Speaker replacement, removal and installation 1.1) Insert flat head screw driver into slot to release dust cover and remove.
Speaker replacement, removal and installation 2.1) Remove two screws exposed from dust cover removal.
Speaker replacement, removal and installation 3.1) Remove screw covers and three screws.
Speaker replacement, removal and installation 4.1) Insert flat head screw driver under front edge of control panel to release clip and lift panel from door cavity.
4.2) Disconnect connector and remove.
Speaker replacement, removal and installation 5.1) Remove one screw from cavity.
5.2) Pull bottom half of door panel away from door to release door clips.
5.3) Lift panel up to release top locks from window track.
5.4) Disconnect courtesy door light and remove panel from door.

6.2) Remove from door and remove connector.

Nissan Maxima Rear Deck and Speaker Removal Guide

1.1) Lift bottom cushion up, close to where it seems most secure to floor, popping pins from their sockets. This will aid in not bending the seat frame.
1.2) Remove bottom seat cushion from car.

Speaker installation, removing and replacing 2.1) Remove two 10mm bolts located under black protective cushioned tape.
Speaker installation, removing and replacing 3.1) Remove two plastic screw covers and two 10mm bolts.
3.2) Lift rear seat back straight up, there are three hidden pins along the back of the seat that need to released from their sockets.
3.3) Remove seat back from car.
Speaker installation, removing and replacing 4.1) Remove plastic two screws and anchors from third brake light.
Speaker installation, removing and replacing 5.1) Remove third brake light and disconnect.
Speaker installation, removing and replacing 6.1) Remove two screws from third brake light  bracket.
6.2) Remove bracket.
6.3) Lift rear deck cover releasing panel pins.
6.4) Remove rear deck cover.
Speaker installation, removing and replacing 7.1) Remove three bolts securing rear drivers side speaker.
7.2) Release three clamps securing speaker enclosure to rear deck.
*Speaker enclosure will fall into trunk, you might need help with this step in the removal.
Speaker installation, removing and replacing 8.1) Remove three bolts securing rear passenger side speaker.
8.2) Release three clamps securing speaker enclosure to rear deck.
*Speaker enclosure will fall into trunk, you might need help with this step in the removal.
*Cover open face of 6x9's with cardboard to protect during shipping.

Speaker installation, removing and replacing

These removal instructions work laying down in trunk while looking up at rear package shelf.

1.1) Remove three screws from amplifier cover and remove cover.

2.2) Remove two screws securing amplifier, it should fall into your lap.

These instructions work only if power antenna motor runs when car stereo is turned on/off.
Antenna mast replacement, removal and installation 1.1) Special tool needed to remove nut. Instead, use needle nose pliers, insert nose into slots on both sides of antenna nut and loosen.

*NOTE - use caution, if you slip, you scratch the car.

1.2) Turn car stereo on and remove antenna mast. Turn off ignition.

DO NOT CUT NYLON CABLE
2.1) Measure length of mast and cable, new against old. They should match lengths exactly.
If they DO NOT match, continue to next step.
* There is a 3 inch sleeve on the antenna that should remove with the mast. In some cases, it is badly corroded and remains in the antenna motor assembly.
If nylon cables match, skip to step #14.
Antenna mast replacement, removal and installation

If nylon cables are different lengths, continue.

3.1) Open trunk.
3.2) Remove two panel pins from side panel in trunk.

Power antenna removal, antenna mast replacement *Note - In some cases, the 14mm bolt securing the seat belt roller may need to be removed. Watch for spacer between roller and frame, it will drop behind panel. Also, there may be several extra panel pins that may require removal.
Antenna mast replacement, removal and installation 4.1) Pull panel from side of trunk.
4.2) Remove jack.
Power antenna removal, antenna mast replacement 5.1) Remove two screws securing power antenna.
Antenna mast replacement, removal and installation 6.1) Lift antenna motor assembly up to release latch.
6.2) Push antenna motor assembly down to release from rubber grommet on fender and begin to work antenna assembly out through opening. (It is a puzzle)
6.3) Release antenna connector and wire harness from antenna motor assembly.
Power antenna removal, antenna mast replacement 7.1) Remove six screws from antenna motor assembly cover.
Antenna mast replacement, removal and installation 8.1) Lift plastic cover from assembly.
Power antenna removal, antenna mast replacement 9.1) Remove broken antenna mast cable from cover, remove all pieces of cable.
Antenna mast replacement, removal and installation 10.1) Lift second cover on antenna assembly, look for any pieces of antenna mast.
10.2) Reassemble.
10.3) Reinstall antenna motor assembly into car, connecting antenna and wire harness.
Power antenna removal, antenna mast replacement 11.1) Turn ignition on, be sure car stereo is on and you hear the motor working.
11.2) Insert new antenna mast cable.
11.3) Turn car stereo off, cable should be pulled into motor, if not twist geared cable till it catches.
11.4) Quickly insert antenna mast into hole.
11.5) Allow motor to come to full stop.
Antenna mast replacement, removal and installation 12.1) Install antenna nut.
12.2) Antenna mast may not have reset to full down position.  Turn car stereo on, allow antenna to fully extend. Turn car stereo off. You may have to repeat this process several times to reset or you missed a piece of cable inside the motor assembly.
