Take a trip to Radio Shack for their "Control/Contact Cleaner", or any electronic contact control cleaner will do. Spray at the top of the rheostat. Allow gravity to take affect and the chemical to seep down into the rheostat. Be careful not to over spray. Rotate the control and repeat the process. Replace the knob and test stereo.
